Revive Your Bible Study This Christmas - Pt 2

This simple blog encourages the reader, you, to have PURPOSE in Bible Study.

To simply read is great, but studying to ”take away” some nugget of truth is far better!

Bible Study equips and encourages, grows and gains, and strengthens and satisfies the inner person of the disciple. Simply put, disciples are students, but are we the type of student just “making it through class,” or are we growing and learning by leaps and bounds to live life for the Lord?

Let me give you 3 simple ways you can PURPOSE to get more out of your Bible Study in the future:

I. PURPOSE to be specific in Bible Study. This certainly doesn’t negate those random times God speaks to you from random verses here and there, but random reception of God’s Word shouldn’t be the norm. We should specifically focus on something to better attain and retain that something. Try this...today I want to study the word GRACE, or today I want to study the life of GIDEON, etc. Then sink in to the topic.

II. PURPOSE to soak up God’s Word in Bible Study. Try to log information as you study. Recite to retain the helpful information over and over again in your mind (Mediation). Even pray through the topic or passage as the Spirit leads you.

***Praying through passages has always been my greatest and most well loved form of Bible Study-especially when studying to preach the Word. God illuminates so much to me in this way!

III. PURPOSE to share the truths you’ve learned with someone. Get used to sharing what you’ve learned with your spouse or family member. Find a good friend to share truth with. BUT never dismiss the fact that God has filled you up with truth so that you can minister truth.

*Friends in the faith need edification, and those without Christ need to hear the truth from someone who knows the truth.

1 Peter 3:15-16 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: [16] Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.”

2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
