Give Thanks
Psalm 105:1 "O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people."
We have an awesome privilege to call upon the name of the Lord, and one of the things we do the least, when we call upon Him, is thank Him. I want to challenge you to purpose to give thanks to God more frequently and truly by committing to the following helps:
I. Start your prayer with, "Dear God, I want to thank you for...," and then let Him know the specifics. Share at least one thing with Him that stands out to you at the very moment you are praying. Determine you are going to praise Him for something different each time. Though He is worthy of all praise, don't get stuck using the same phrases over and over again as you thank Him.
II. Let someone else know why you are thankful for God this thanksgiving. The end of the verse says, "make known his deeds among the people." Now, its one things to testify of God's goodness on social media, but please try to step out and share your "thanks to God" with a real tangible person. You never know...it may turn into a witnessing opportunity, or it may just be what "so and so" needs to take joy for their journey!
III. Don't just list off some words of thanks this thanksgiving because you know its the "right thing" to do. Purpose to share your gratefulness to God and about God to others with a genuine heart of praise behind the thanks giving. God is worthy of true praise, and not some half-hearted, cold-toned, "just doing it cause i'm supposed to" words of thanksgiving. Be real. Be grateful. Be truly thankful, and find more ways to express God's goodness this year from a pure genuine heart!
You will find that the more you thank God the less you'll complain!
