Created For A Purpose

As you glance at the posted picture, what do you see? Well, at face value you see a neat old truck (some of you can tell me what kind) that represents one of Seward, Alaska’s great restaurants. But as I think about this picture I see a truck that was once created as vehicle to get someone from point A to point B while having the ability to carry a great load. We would call this the truck’s “main purpose” for being created.

Now before I carry on any further with this illustration, please understand that I like that old truck that’s just sitting there holding a sign that advertises a unique Alaskan restaurant. I realize that that truck was once (or still is) someone’s “baby,” but I must give you a life application that I believe will help us to further glorify God as we take heed to the message in picture.

The Scripture that comes to my mind is Proverbs 15:22, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.” Please take second and read this verse again…now, how does this apply to our topic today? Here’s our answer: If we neglect good, godly, biblical counsel we will not fulfill our purpose as God’s most unique creation - mankind. 

You may ask, “Why was I created, and what’s my purpose?” According to the book of Genesis man was created to fulfill God’s commands, enjoy God given relationships, and bring glory to his Creator-God. Also, 1 Corinthians 10:31 sums it up pretty good, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”  Are we bringing God glory in all we do by taking heed to good, godly, biblical counsel, or are we neglecting to get our tires inflated, engine cleaned out, put gas in our tanks, etc? Young people, listen to your parents (especially as they give you biblical advice). People of all ages, listen to your Pastors, Evangelists, and Teachers and take heed to your daily Bible reading…God does not want you to neglect the purpose He created you for!

You know, as I look at this old truck again, I notice something else…the truck looks pretty good on the outside, but, let me remind you again, the truck at hand is not busy doing what the truck was created to do. You may look good on the outside. You may even represent and advertise the things of God, but are you really doing daily what God created you to do? Has your purpose ever been God’s purpose? How do you react when you receive good, godly, biblical counsel? One last question, will you end your life sitting around doing nothing for God, or will you get busy doing what you were created to do? Get glorifying God, and may Jesus Christ be praised!
