Assisting The Pastor

You have no idea how much relief and encouragement a Pastor gets when the Lord brings a handful of good, Christ-honoring, servant-hearted, hard working, dedicated church members into the church he pastors. It certainly lightens a hefty load that many will never understand. I’ll say it like this…the value of many good assistants is priceless.
Thankfully, I can type with joy today as I think of the many church members at Crossroads who bring great relief and encouragement into my life. If you are one of these (you know who you are, and I emphasize it again-there are many) thank you for jumping on board and serving the Lord beside my bride and me as we enjoy our journeys with Jesus together…you are a blessing!
Let’s take a brief moment to point out a few places in the Bible where we see how assisting the Pastor really does help “lighten the load” by bringing relief and encouragement:
1. Great assistants will stand by the Man of God and brace the Man of God up to aid in longevity and strength during the battle. Exodus 17:8-14
2. Great assistants exercise wisdom, and then they transfer that knowledge (in a correct manner) to the Man of God. Exodus 18:13-24
3. Great assistants do not have trouble obeying the Man of God or taking Godly advice from him. 1 Samuel 3:2-11
4. Great assistants stop at nothing to bring a little refreshment and encouragement into the Man of God’s life. 2 Samuel 23:15-17
5. Great assistants carry on the torch and get the job done even when the Man of God is not around. 2 Kings 2:9-14
Let’s jump to the New Testament now:
6. Great assistants glean from the Man of God, and then they pass what they have received on to others who are in need. Matthew 14:19
7. Great assistants genuinely care for the well-being of the Man of God’s family. John 19:25-27
8. Great assistants have no problem hazarding their lives with the Man of God for the Name of Christ. Acts 15:26
9. Great assistants have a touch of Epaphroditus-itus as testified by the Man of God. Philippians 2:25-30
10. Great assistants are profitable to the Man of God for the work of the ministry. 2 Timothy 4:11
Crossroads has been blessed with a good group of people (including a brand-new Assistant Pastor)

who have already proved many of these truths above to bring needed relief and encouragement into this preacher’s life, and I am so thankful for it!
May God continue to teach us how to better serve others, how to better serve our Man of God, and how to better serve our God that we may glorify our God to the fullest!
Thanks for reading and heeding!
Pastor Smith
